EMERGING ARTIST

The Wrong 7 Jazz Quintet

The Wrong 7 Jazz Quintet consists of five music students at New Mexico State University who are enthusiastic and passionate about jazz music.

The jazz combo gets its name from a guest clinician who worked with the group earlier in its existence. Because the group was younger and less experienced, the wise guest found himself having to cut everyone off to inform soloists they were playing “the wrong 7” over chord changes.

The group found the phrase charming and when they were looking for a name for the ensemble, it seemed fitting.
